Marketing Internship

Dear Mr. Yelp
Sure social media has attracted every 20 something on a fast track to graduation. I’m one of those people. To me, marketing is just an official way of saying “I exist and I’m awesome! Tell your friends!” Growing up in Central New Jersey I know how people tend to judge based on first impression. It’s really important to know the happening spots all over town. Experiencing these places first-hand can be the difference good PR and great PR. Then there’s “You have to come here as soon as possible!” PR. That’s the kind I’m planning on bringing to the social media aspect of Yelp!
Currently I am an undergraduate student at Rowan University and am already handling the social media aspect for Yorick Magazine, an online publication. I post links for their Twitter feed as well as their Google Plus. Other members will post poetry, spoken word, and other literary works so people can help them improve their writing skills. This involves talking to the users directly and building relationships with them. If I could do this with venue owners, restaurateurs, and shop owners, it will make planning events and writing newsletters even easier. Let’s build a rich network of local businesses together to help the public enjoy themselves. Let’s help them make the right decision when choosing where to spend their hard-earned free time and money.
Since I am 21 years of age, traveling in and out of the locations shouldn’t be an issue. I will be graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Writing Arts in the spring of 2015 with education in magazine article writing, journalism 101, and writing for a multitude of topics and disciplines in having a good time. Working as a secretary for my on-campus publication Avant allowed me to edit and review several different forms of prose, poetry, and fiction, giving a firm grasp on how others view the world. There are going to be hundreds of people traveling in and out of dozens of different eateries, pubs, dine-ins, and the like and I want to witness their reactions to write helpful and insightful reviews for future customers. Using Yelp as an outlet for this is an amazing opportunity to not only improve my professional abilities, but create a happy and healthy atmosphere for customers of all ages to enjoy.
That is how a business should learn about its customers. They should build a relationship with them that lasts for years on end. Yelp can help people get to that point faster. Located below is a link to my Yelp page, and I hope you take my application into consideration.
